Sonia Singh, MSW, LCSW, LCADC is a double board licensed psychotherapist in the state of New Jersey. Her motivation and passion for helping people surfaced through the earlier part of Sonia’s adult life, where she overcame her own life struggles and developed skills that allowed her to develop a state of inner wellness and balance for herself. Sonia’s life purpose became to empower, inspire, support and motivate the people who she comes in contact with, so they can transform into being better versions of themselves, ultimately allowing them to live happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives.
Sonia received her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University-Newark with college honors. Soon afterwards, she received a partial scholarship and completed her Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work with a Certificate in Addiction Counseling and Treatment at Rutgers University- New Brunswick. Her post-graduate education in couples counseling, positive psychology and integrative mind, body & spirit interventions has been completed at New York University, Columbia University and Northwestern University.
Sonia has worked in a various of treatment settings including outpatient treatment centers, intensive outpatient treatment centers, intensive-in home/in-community treatment settings, private group practice, hospitals and private practice. Aside from her clinical treatment work, she is a media personality that focuses on education, empowerment and advancing one’s awareness towards trending issues related to relationships, mental health and women. She is the host of a monthly podcast, is a local central New Jersey radio host veteran and has several experiences as a guest on local TV programming talk shows as a young psychotherapist professional. Sonia also is a published writer, with articles in The Courier News and featured blog entries on various mental health platforms.
Sonia is first generation American-Punjabi who is New York City and Central New Jersey Native. She was born in New York City to Punjabi immigrants and understands and speaks semi-conversational Punjabi. As a minority woman, Sonia has a strong passion for working with various minorities. She has developed a multi-cultural network of peers and colleagues from all walks of life and strives to break barriers of race and ethnicity by supporting equality amongst human kind.
Sonia’s passion for treating addiction and providing couples therapy derives from personal experiences. She has lost loved ones and seen the lives of several close relationships destruct due to the devastating effects of addiction. She dedicated several years of her life obtaining the education and clinical licenses to do powerful and impactful work in addiction treatment settings. Her passion for providing addiction treatment was to help people by being humble, honest, supportive, down to earth, knowledgeable and comforting. Sonia feels that many people have a hard time accepting help due to the discomfort of sharing their lives with someone who they don’t know. Sonia prides herself in being genuine and “keeping it real”. She completed formal training in couple’s therapy to help bring a small change in the increasing statistic of failed relationships in America. She believes that the healthy relationships lead to healthier communities and she feels passionate about being an integral part of the change effort to help repair and heal the relationships that she is able to work with.
Sonia’s personal interest include arts and culture, positively influencing on social media platforms, music therapy, health and wellness, fashion, investing, fitness and mind, body and spirit healing.
