MISSION and Purpose Statement
The Cannabis Health Program at COIT is an alternative treatment substance use/mental health treatment program that specializes in the treatment associated to the needs presented by medical marijuana users and those people who suffer from the eligible MMJP (Medical Marijuana Program) mental health diagnosis.
The Cannabis Health Program understands that coping with mental health symptoms can be very challenging, and for many people, cannabis can serve as an effective alternative treatment solution. The Cannabis Health Program at COIT aims to support clients in achieving safe and healthy medical cannabis use habits that reduce the potential for harm, risk or addiction. The Cannabis Health Program at COIT engages clients and related treatment interventions with the highest level of ethics, compliant with the professional boards that set the standards for the work that we do. We aim to empower our clients with the tools, knowledge and skills necessary to support the cognitive, motivational and behavioral needs that medical cannabis use presents to patients.
The Cannabis Health Program at COIT was founded in 2017 by Sonia Singh, a double board licensed mental health and substance use therapist, who aims to develop medical cannabis treatment programs that addresses disparities that medical cannabis patients and those people suffering from mental health conditions experience. These include supporting equal and fair access for people who suffer from the mental health conditions eligible for New Jersey’s Medical Marijuana Program through offering services that enable clients to get treatment focused in utilizing cannabis as a treatment option. The Cannabis Health Program at COIT aims to assist the decriminalization movement, by providing services that support the legal access to cannabis, as well as to directly minimize the legal consequences and risks due to illegal therapeutic cannabis use.
Sonia Singh, MSW, LCSW, LCADC is a double board licensed psychotherapist in the state of New Jersey. Her motivation and passion for helping people surfaced through the earlier part of Sonia’s adult life, where she overcame her own life struggles and developed skills that allowed her to develop a state of inner wellness and balance for herself. Sonia’s life purpose became to empower, inspire, support and motivate the people who she comes in contact with, so they can transform into being better versions of themselves, ultimately allowing them to live happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives.
